Hey guys, have been trying to find helpful info, researching looking for possible solutions and or cause to my issue with no luck.

I bought a 2008 Porwler 650 that has low miles and had recently been serviced as follows

Valves checked and adjusted
Carb rebuilt and cleaned
Engine oil, filter etc.
Temp sensor
Radiator cap
Compression test reading 122psi

Machine ran great started fine, had plenty of power, has always smelled a little rich and I noticed someone installed an aftermarket electric fuel pump. Took it on two 4 mile rides and the third time I went to take it out I made it about 600ft, came to a stop and it died, crank but wont start, pulled plug and she was fouled up super black, cleaned it off as best as I could tried to start got a stumble but that was it. Towed it home, and this is what I have tested so far trying to find the issue.

Good Spark
Good Fuel
Cleaned Air filter but did not look too bad
Bought new plugs yes plural for tuning and diagnosing

First thing I did was gap and install new plug, cranked and on initial crank I get one stumble but that is it then she floods, pull the plug and its wet, dry off repeat same outcome.

Thought carb may have issue, pulled it disassembled cleaned and inspected, re-assembled but same issue.

Next I got rid of the electric fuel pump, thinking it may be over pressurizing the carb causing leak by and flooding engine. But same issue. After this I did a compression test which resulted at 55psi :(, added teaspoon of oil to cylinder results where the same no change. Oil is not milky, have not checked coolant, and no obvious exterior leak on head/cylinder. So if it is a head gasket could it cause flooding, or is that the result since no bang bang.

Last thing I tried is disconnecting the electric choke, thinking it may be over fueling and she stuttered more than it has been but didn't start, battery was low at this point so I let it charge, just tried it again this time with throttle wide open as I crank and she fired roared to life, I feathered the throttle a bit revved it up, then let off and she died, tried to start again and nothing.

I'm assuming 55psi is way too low and I should just open it up for tear down, but since I finally got it to start and briefly run, that makes me believe it should start and run on its own if I can find the over fuel issue right? Need advice on where to turn next are there common areas to check on the carb that I missed, or should I just tear it apart, rebuild topend and go from there?

Thanks

Start by testing the electric choke.

It’s hard to get a good reading because it has a compression release on the cam. Get rid of the electric pump

Hey thanks man, I tested the auto choke like you suggested and it's not working what so ever, glad to hear about the compression also. I got a new choke on the way, I'll keep you posted with how it turns out, how do you check compression with the auto decompression system?
