hey i got a new motor for my EXT (zrt) its a 97 but the motor is a 98 and i do believe that you need to change the stator and flywheel and put the one from the 97 into the 98 because one is an open circuit ignition and the other is closed? this is correct right? and also the timing sensor?

and i need to put my oil pump and carb boots on too because i don't have the fuel pump that mixes the fuel inside of it if there is anything else that would differ let me know

8 times out of 10 you need to swap over the whole ignition if you can. Some years you can mix/match a bit, but if the stator and flywheel are different the rule of thumb is that you need to complete ignition to make it work. You can run a closed ignition in an open chassis. The key works backwards and you can just unplug the TSS/Kill switch and it will still run while bypassing the switches.

so i should or shouldn't switch the stator/flywheel and ignition sensor?

so i need to get the 98 CDI and put that on my sled and it will be fine with my 97 coils and everything on my sled?

anybody?

You can use any CDI, any coils and any stator up to year 2000 on those models. They are all interchangeable. Some flywheels and CDI's may have changes that will effect timing etc, not 100% sure on all of them. 98 and newer CDI's are open ignition, older ones are closed ignition. If you want all the switches on the sled to function normally you need to use the right one. You should be fine with the 97 CDI. I don't think you have to worry about anything, just put it all together and run it.

the center piston went and bent the rod so that coulda bent the crankshaft and it woulda cost $425+ to rebuild and i got the motor for $400 so i think i got a deal the new motor has 1,700 miles
