Not really. The CDI uses the TPS to alter ignition timing dependent on throttle position.

TPS? is it located on the carbs?

On my ZRT it is a magnetic sensor that is disconnected on each carb, but the sled runs just fine.
It not the orginal engine but a 900 thundercat installed.

What you are talking about are the magnetic switches for the throttle safety system. Those are only on or off, no in-between.

The TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) on the ZR 700 in question tells the CDI how far you have your thumb into it and its resistance is variable from idle to full throttle. The CDI uses this information to vary the timing of the ignition to maximize performance.

 

The Mag switches on your carbs are part of your Throttle Safety system (TSS) not the Throttle position sensor (TPS)
All they do is sense whether the carb slides are closed or open

 

The "TPS" on your sled is just called a Sensor in the parts diagrams. It is mounted to the clutch side carb. It should be obvious how to unplug it, but as the other guys have stated, that will have a bad effect on your performance. Unlike the EFI's, that sensor is separately replaceable. The p/n for a 2000 ZR700 is 6506-074, but since you have a 900 in there now, it's sort of a question mark. Did they use the 900 carbs? what year is it? Did they use new carb slides, or the original ones?

There should be plugs that lead into the tss system. They will not affect performance, but your tss will not work.

 

the sevice manual said it will run ok at low speed kind of limp mode if not working or hooked up. Just to get home on trailer or to shop. Hoping to switch carbs no TPS on them but sounds like it will be major problem with 3D igntion.

 

Any body know where to get a TPS for a 1998 Arctic Cat 600 EFI?? Mine has a confirmed dead spot at just off Idle.
Is there a Part # for the TPS or do I have to buy the whole Throttle Body? Does anyone know?

 

You extra question guys should start another post. It gets real confusing trying to decipher who is getting at what.
