Also its always a great idea to put in in 4WD LOW and nice and easy up the ramps!, My H1 fits no problem with the tailgate down on my 6 1/2 foot bed..

 

Not too sure if it will fit in a 6'5" bed. Might be tight. I have a 6' 5" bed on my Toyota but I lose a foot of length due to having a roll top cover on it. As you will see from the following pictures, the AC 500's front axle is pretty much lined up with the end of the bed. I run on gravel roads with the tail gate off to keep the tail gate from being blasted by gravel. I have to back the Cat onto the truck in order to gain as much space as possible. If I loaded it forward It wouldn't fit. Having a high tail gate will not be an advantage because it might contact protruding parts of the machine. You're probably best off removing the tail gate and using tie down straps.

 

I have a 2001 dodge ram and if I back my H1 in to the bed I can shut my tailgate. My ramps are 7 1/2 ft. folding ramps got them off or ebay.

ihave 7-8 foot long custom ramps. they are heavy duty angle iron about 1 foot apart with steel mesh welding them together. they dont flex in the least big and i get my bike in my my ram 2500 short bed 6.5' bed with a tool box.

 

My cat fit in my 6.5 bed (same truck). Could even close the gate. It was tight.

For times when I don't want to use the trailer I made a set of ramps. Got 2- 2 x 10 x 8'-0" and used a peace of 1/16 steel plate that bolts to the end of the 2 x 10 with bend in the plate. One end of the plate is bolted to the 2 x 10 and the other end rest on the truck bed. No problem to load and 2 x 10 are more than strong enough for biggest ATV. Used 4 3/8 bolts with nuts and not lags.

 

Thanks for all the replies guys. Sorry I didn't get back sooner, but I completely forgot I posted on this topic. I've been using my trailer, but the short trips would really be nice to do away with it. My trailer is not wide enough to see while going down the road and can be a pain to back up until it swings around far enough to see.

i have a 97 2500 8 ft bed with a tool box and i cant close the tailgate by about 9 inches. i also use 8 ft ramps and its still a little steep
