My sled is a 2012 f800 ltd with about 1600 miles on it and I started getting this ecu-06 once in a while, it blinks "ECU-06" then blinks "TEMP". So I checked my fluid level which isn't so simple. But the whole time, I'm thinking the code ecu-06 means the sensor has failed, not an over temp condition. But just to be safe, i checked the fluid level. So i Removed the hood (there's no clear tank reservoir, so you have to look into the rad hose after you remove the rad cap). Its located on the left hand side of the sled under hood (pod), kind of like below your left hand when your holding the bars. If you read your user manual it says you should see fluid 3/4 of the way up this tube that the rad cap is on, which is retarded because the hose makes a bend immediately below the rad cap then down to the bottom so you can NOT see the level. So squish the hose and listen for some fluid. FLUID GOOD
Investigate temp sensor- removed pipe did not remove muffler. The temp sensor wiring comes off the main harness where it rests along the frame near where the pull rope goes by. There is a yellow connector and this leads to the sensor which is really low behind, almost underneath the backside of the motor. I checked the resistance at the connector and it was 2100 ohms which according to the chart is room temperature so I knew the sensor was good. Then I checked the harness where the temp sensor wire branched off. There was a zip tie there so I cut it and checked underneath and sure enough, worn through the yellow wire. Taped it up, put some wire lume around it, reconnected it, GOOD FIXED.
Nothing showed up when I googled or searched for this fault code, so I thought I should make a note of this. I'm sure this will happen to other guys because there is no protection for that wire where it rubs the frame a little wirelume and it should last forever.
So hopefully this write up will help someone when they search ECU-06.
I have pics but sorry I didn't have a chance to upload them.
