I am having a hard time deciding on a new quad. I took a ride on a 2010 mudpro 700, I liked the quad. I wasen't impressed that it overheated though. I like the 700H1 engine and the mud pro has a softer seat than the other cats. I read they put in 2" of extra foam in them. I chalked up the overheating to be a fluke. I love the bumpers and winch that it has. I am not a fan of the painted plastic, but my prowler has it too, so far so good on that. I am not a mud bog guy, but we are always climbing through some nasty trails, over logs, rocks, and some mud. I like the 4.0 gears and the ability the mud pro has to climb over things. I also rode a Sportsman 850 XP. The motor is so smooth, does't really matter but just had to be noted. The sportsman just fits because I have owned one since 01 with great reliability. My Prowler is my first cat and there is just something about a cat that speaks to me. But, the Polaris has done me well and has to be considered. I know this is a cat site, but I also know I will get great feedback on this. I know the cats belt drive is much better!! I also know there are a few mud pro's that overheat, why? Sounds like the fix is a bigger fuse or circuit breaker. Why would cat send out a quad that overheats? Should I go for a 2010 T-Cat?? I am loving the EFI on my Prowler so I want to go that way instead of a carb. I am looking for a rock solid quad. I think I am looking for a mud pro. Thoughts, I will be looking at 2009 or 2010 model's

I drove the 850 PoPo and loved it's ride and steering but I just found that it lacked in the

power dept both my Can Am 800 and 09 T-Cat will eat the 850 PoPo...As far as the overheating

thing goes a buddy of mine has an 850 and he ran into some over heating probs when trying

to haul some wood where his old 2000 grizz would never heat up pulling the same loads in

the same place. Good luck with ever you buy Bouma.

I think as far as a quad that is built to work, I think the cat is it. The overheating thing does bother me. But also my XTX Prowler(same motor) has never got hot. Can some one help me with the diff's on the Cat's. The 09 and 10's are they fixed. The other question is the bevel gears I hear about, is this fixed? I think my 08 XTX has the weak bevel gear in it also. I know all of them will have problems, but want to buy a quad thats known to hold up. I also like the Idea of a T-cat, how would you guys rate the durability and dependability of a T-Cat vs Mud Pro 700?? When I buy a quad I keep them them a long time, my Sportsman I bought in 01 and have almost 10,000 miles on it. I also thought maybe I should just get another 500 Sportsman? Thanks again for the help!!

my buddy has the 850 polaris and is up to $5300.00 in warranty claims already,
3 water pumps front diff ect.. his warranty is up soon and wants rid of it,
won't be able to aford it he says!!! don't blame him
worst part is none of this is mud ridding, all trails!!!
don"t get me wrong, they all have there problems!!!!
i drove it and love the ride, its an awsome bike but i am a cat man
and always will be!!!! :catwins :wheelie:

Main thing on the MP is the fan fuse it just to small, Why in the world cat sent it out with a 10amp fuse is beyond me just dumb , but a 15amp fuse that cost $5 will fix that up.

Bevel gears have been fixed sense mid 09 models and so has the diff .

IMO the 700H1 MP is a far better quad only thing the 850 might be better at is high speed and being faster. The slip and grip belt set up alone is enough to keep me from buying another popo.

I think what every one has said is true. I agree with you guys about the slip and grip belt. So in general a 2010 mud pro 700 should have the bugs out. Worst case I might have to buy a $5.00 circuit breaker?? I have never had a twin in a quad, I have always had singles and they have done me well. I realy think for the slow going riding we usually do the mud pro 700 is going to get the job done the best. There is a part of me that thinks the T-Cat might be fun for a change. What about a standard 700H1, but then I will have to do bumpers front and back and a winch. I would also change the tires. I guess that brings me back to the mud pro, she's good to go, as far as I'm concerened. Just want to make the rite choice, I often think make I should have got something other than my Prowler XTX. Then we go ridding and it just does so well. Sorry to ramble, thanks for the thoughts! Keep it comming!!

I really really like the AC belt set up It has to be one of the best if not the best system out there . The 650/700H1 motors are very stout to say the least very good motors, I myself like the singles they might not have the speed of the twins but seem to have less issues.
Yes i would think a $5 dollar fuse would be the only thing IMO that you would need to do.
I had two popos a 03 sp700 and a Scrambler 400 and still have a trail boss 330 and a trail blazer 250 and Iam not saying there belt set up is poor or crappy but its just not near as good as the ACs is and when working it and doing technical riding the AC system is just far smoother.

If you go with the Mudpro, consider the year. They changed a few things from 09 to 2010, so that may determine your preference. We bought 09's for the bigger gas tank and fat rear tires. You may prefer skinnier tires and larger wheels...it's all just personal preference.

2009= 12" wheels, 6.5 gallon gas tank, 28x9.5 front tires & 28x12 rear tires.

2010= 14" wheels, bigger brake rotors, relocated front diff lock switch, 5.7 gallon gas tank, 28x9 tires all the way around.

As far as comparing the mfg's, I prefer AC over Polaris. The main reason is the 4-wheel drive system. We took our atv's to the ranch the weekend before last. We didn't play in the mud, but the extra ground clearance and larger tires made short work of a rock garden we traversed while following a dried-up creekbed. My buddy on a Grizz kept banging his frame on the rocks and had to work much harder. The lower 4.0 gearing was really nice, the Cat's just walked right over everything with hardly any throttle.

The overheating is solved with a larger fuse or circuit breaker.

I am far from an expert, but I can give my opinion between Polaris and Arctic Cat. I rode with my cousin last weekend who owns a Polaris 700. As we first started out our ride, we headed up a fairly steep hill and I passed him immediately as halfway up the hill, his belt started smoking. Now this IS the only time this happend (even though we climbed steeper hills later) but I've never had this happen to me on the Cat yet.

For the most part, we were pretty evenly matched on the trails. He put his in low range alot more often, but I chalk that up to him still not being comfortable on the bike yet. When he would pin the throttle and take off, he would keep looking back as if to see how bad he was smoking me. Well, the joke was on him, because as he looked back each time, I was pushing on his rear bumper or looking for a lane to pass.

I will say this though-- The Polaris, to me, seems like more of a touring bike, whereas the Arctic Cat is more of a trail hog, a mud lover, a rock crawler, and a work horse. The seat on the Polaris was 10x more comfortable than mine, the acceleration was smooth and the bike was fast, but that torquey feeling wasn't there like my Cat has.

So, I guess overall, my opinon would be if you want a nice touring, cruiser style ATV, the Polaris takes the cake in the comfort department. But when it comes to just about everything else, give me my Arctic Cat. And honestly, I don't feel that my AC is terribly uncomfortable, just not as comfortable as the Polaris.

I'm sure you already know some of this and maybe it didn't help much, but just thought I'd share my opportunity at a side-by-side comparison.

The Mudpro is a great bike but If I were going to buy another I would buy a Regular 700H1 with the 3.6 gears, Put the mudpro snorkel on it and Give my clutch to airdam. It would also be Lime green. The things that I dont like about the mudpro are the painted plastics, Small racks (i know the 700H1 has them too, they would be changed out ASAP), And how the 4.0 gears really limit your high speed. Plus the Mudpro cost too much. You can get a 09 700H1 off ebay for $6100 if you are willing to pick it up. Thats over $2000 worth of upgrades you can do to the reg. 700H1. Craziness I tell you.

Unless you are going to be doing atv pulls you really dont need the 4.0's with a 700 engine.

I would go pick up an 09 700h1. Put a winch, some bumpers a snorkel kit, and a custom modded exhaust, have as much if not more machine then the MP for less money, and have something that you wrenched on your self.

There is a great feeling of satisfaction of wrenching on something your self, it makes it more of your own.

Along with that i would get the primary mod done, give you that extra low end torque you need.

I have never seen an 09 with the bad bevel gears in it, I got my 09 the first week my dealer had one, I have the first 09 my dealer sold and it has every update on it that the 09s are suppose to have. as far as the MP they switched to the skinny tires and 14" rims in later 09 as well as 2010 but the early 09s had the 12" rims with wider tires. Cat did do some mid year changes but there can not be many 09s with the bad batch of bevel gears, never seen one and you know witch gear it has just by riding it, the strait cut gears make more noise and a more low pitch noise.
