Arctic Cat 2008 400 - stalling at idle

I am new to forum and have owned my ATV since 2008. I bought the machine at the Bass Pro Shop and to be honest have been dissatisfied every since. It was delivered to me and immediately returned because it would backfire and no longer start. The company was not courteous and very unfriendly to deal with after spending $6500 dollars. I think after all these years I can see the quality of the machines is lacking.

On to stalling at idle problem. This has been an ongoing problem since I owned the machine. I don't know why I tolerated it for this long. After my frustration with the Thief's in Thief River Falls and finally conceded that this is the norm for the 4 wheeler. Currently I have <700 miles on the machine and I finally decided to work on the machine. I cleaned the carb and found white residue on the pin and jets probably linked to Ethanol. I replaced the Electric choke which was a bulk of the problem of getting poor performance. I still have the stalling at idle problem since the beginning.

I can set the idle higher which solves the problem but shifting the machine becomes a tough. Does anyone have input on how to solve the low idle stalling? Any input would be appreciated.

No, it's not normal to run like crap. I would take the carb apart again and clean it again, blow out ever orifice, put a filter inline, maybe even clean the tank. Not all dealers are aholes, and sadly it doesn't seem like any of the manufactures are very responsive to owners complaints. I think you have a good machine, perhaps you can find a dealer that will take care of you. GL

The only service dept at BPS is to service your Daiwa reel. Clean that carb real good and check pilot jet to make sure it not blocked in any way. You've got a real good workhorse of a quad. My 03 400 has been basically trouble free. Adjust idle in 1/4 turns till good. And maybe get new plug too. BTW, I never run ethanol in any of my seasonal equipment. If you have to, add a product like CRC PhaseGuard 4 to your fuel.
