Another Torsion Spring Question!

Ok,

So I am looking to really stiffen up the back end of my sled, and the last springs I ordered seemed very soft to the original set. The skid is out of a 98-99 ZR, and I added 2001 optional Sno-Pro 90 deg square springs last season.

Spring Specs-.359 wire, 90 Deg., 5.75 coils, and 15.62 overall length

The HD springs have the same info but with 3.75 wire

Anybody have a suggestion as to which springs to go with? I though about the HD Sno-Pro srpings from 01, but .375 wire doesn't seem like it would be much better.

I would go with either of these. I am currently using the 1604-076/077 springs in my 98 ZRT. I am 6'4" ~300lbs.

How do the 388/389 seem to work for you? I am a very big guy, 350#, and need the stiffest spring AC makes. I am really tired of bottoming out when I jump things. At this point it is quicker and easier to stiffen the suspension than shed 100 pounds ;) . It also sounds like the 077/076 are a pretty stiff spring also.

I can personally vouch for the 076/077 springs. Plenty stiff for anyone who considers themselves aggressive and likes a bit of air. They will work for lighter very aggressive riders with the lightest preload setting and have room for adjustment. If you are lighter move your rear arm to the front hole and adjust the springs to counteract transfer as you like. Even at 210+ lbs I ran my rear arm on the front hole but jacked the preload up and I was very happy with them. If I could still use them I would, they are/were that good.

Jeff, I want to move my rear arw to the front one hole, have it all the way back to get it lowered, can I do this while the suspension is on the machine. Do I relieve the spring tension, and loosen the track up. Anybody have or can tell me a place for rear spring options for the 97 zr, what will fit/tension etc? Thanks

Bernie, your situation might be different on the ice ovals in regards to spring rates. I would think the stock 194/195 would be fine for your sled.

Yes you can move the arm with the skid mounted. Just get the rear off the ground and take the pressure off the springs if you can and it will move easily enough. I've done it several times without even unhooking the springs.

If I remember right, I measured the difference in ride height between front and 3rd hole back and it was 1/2" lower in the 3rd hole.
