any warnings or tips on a 97 ZRT 600

tcat446 is right, they're pretty good sleds.

But they're awesome with the front end mod, rivalling or even surpassing the handling of the newest sleds available.

Have you considered doing the front end mod instead of restoring to stock as a possibility?

yep, that was me!

I only paid 500 for it. how could I go wrong?

needs right side a-arms, the shock and two ski's.

gonna change the track before winter. is there a 1.25 Cobra available for a 97 ZRT? :chug:

For that amt of stuff,, i'd immediately start talking with AG

And yes,, 1.352,, but,, the addt'l .127" is only the very corner "stubs" on the lugs,, so it truly performs like a 1.25'r,, it's fully clipped, all windows open and weighs 37lbs,, not too shabby imo[/b]
cool! i'll look into it.

now, i removed the bent a-arms, the bent shock and unhooked the stabilizer bar and everything turns free. nothing wrong with the spindle, nothing is binding in the rack! < glad of that!

i have one major concern: there is raw oily gas leaking where the pipe meets the exhaust manifold, I had this condition on the 95 ZR 700 i had and for the life of me, i cannot remember what i did to fix it!

Ideas? carbs were sync'ed by a good Cat dealer last winter. fires up on the first pull, and has 150 psi compression on all 3 holes.

There are gaskets inside the flange where the pipe meets. They need to be replaced.

all apart! seat went to get recovered this morning, and i found a Coolant leak at the water pump, so i am gonna rebuild it. at least she let me know in my shop and not out on the trail somewhere, 100 miles from home. it'll only cost about 70 bucks for peace of mind.

i looked at the pistons thru the exhaust ports and can see why compression is so good. they do look new- not a scratch!

I am considering pulling the Engine and degreasing everything and repainting under the hood. I think it will be easier to raise the steering assembley with the engine out. i need to shim up the rack to maintain proper steering geometry and eliminate bump steer that will come with the AGLT mod. all it takes is a few washers under the rack mounts and re-install the bolts. also eliminates play in the bars.

I also did a thorough cleaning of the carbs and airbox.

i ordered new carb boots and the rubber boots that connect the carbs to the airbox, they were cracked and torn.

she is a hurting unit right now though, LOL, but overall i am super happy with the condition of the chassis. no cracks or dents.

Don't forget to check the carb boots on the otherside of the carb. for cracks. If they are cracked and suck air you will burn her down. Something that old should at the least be looked at. Sometimes you have to flex and bend them to see the cracks if they are just starting. Just found some off e-bay perfect-no cracks at all for $20.00 to my door. I get lucky once in awhile.

I hear ya on the boots. I did a good inspection of every thing on the sled. i know what cracked ones do. these are cracked, but not all the way thru. buying brand new ones anyway.

If you can't find it let me know and I will bump the topic up to the top so you can read it. Very very simple to do!!!
