I just finished rebuilding my ZRT 600. It started up and ran for a few minutes and died. Now it just backfires occasionally when I pull it. Got spark and fuel. Won't fire with ether either. Can a CDI fail and the engine still have good spark?

People say ether is bad for 2 strokes.

If you have spark I don't see it being the CDI.

If you have spark and fuel there's not a lot left. You need air so exhaust needs to be clear (rodent nests).

If it won't even fire with ether, it must be very badly flooded. Check for sticky choke plunger(s) Maybe try a fresh set of plugs, see what happens. It should at least fire. Those throttle safety switches can be a pain as well. :chug:

Instead of ether, use a mix of gas and oil mixed 50:1. Ether washes down the cylinders and can cause scoring of the cylinder walls.
Change plugs as was mentioned, you p[robably flooded it. Check for blockage in exhaust and intake as well as leaks in the boots

Thanks for the ideas. Is there a firing order for the plugs or do they all fire at the same time?
