we were all set up to buy a 2000 zr 440 sno pro. I was happy that i was finally going to get a decent sled. Well anyway, my dad talked to a guy that said no matter what i shouldn't get the zr because i will constantly have to maintain it and that i have to run a "special" type of oil (I think he means synthetic). he recomended the zl instead because it is more trail friendly. i normally ride trails, but i wouldn't be easy on the sled. i am just wondering what you thnk would be the better buy: a zl or a zr?

It's hard to necessarily say which is a better buy for you, but you do need to consider a few things.

Was the Sno Pro raced? If so, you have to consider the wear and tear on the sled. Obviously it is designed to be raced and to be ridden more aggressively.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong (probably am), but the oil mentioned is more likely a pre-mix (gas/oil) than synthetic. Don't think Sno Pros come with oil injection, not sure if you can convert it. I dunno Traditionally race sleds require more maintainenance than trail sleds, but if you are handy with tools and can read the race manual you're a step ahead.

The ZL is a nice sled, should be fairly reliable provided it has been cared for, like every other sled out there. You could still ride aggressively on a ZL, could always change out shocks, etc. if need be. my2cents

Most decisions aren't easy when it comes to spending money, but hope this helps.

IMO if you purchased a ZR or ZL instead of the snopro you would be getting a sled that in most cases hasn't been raced and/or beaten up quite as much. Did I mention that I have a meticulously cared for 2000 ZR600 for sale? I don't know where you are from but if you want to learn more see my ad in the swap meet section or write me back. Good luck with whatever youe decision is. :sledder:

P.S. I don't know about having to pre-mix the fuel for a Sno Pro but as far as I do know the 2000 ZR's and ZL's are oil injected and don't have APV (Arctic Power Valves) and therefore do not require synthetic oil. :purpaw:
