Still problems...Well I had the carbs off set them to specs and still having problems...It starts 2 pulls every time if it sits for a day..But if you shut it off after warm up, an leave it sit anywhere from 5min. to 2 hours it takes sometimes 20-30 pulls to start again...I tried every trick.choke no choke,1-3 primes with and without choke, no throttle 1/4,1/2, 3/4 full throttle. No choke and no throttle at all, but still impossible to start after warm up
It is a 1988 500FC cougar. it works great when started, top and bottom end no hesitation anywhere.Did't always do this..New plugs
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!VA

You will need a ohm meter. Unplug the 3 wire harness that goes between the motor and cdi box, take measurements on the motor side of the plug.
1. Check the resistance between the red/white and black/white (the book I'm looking at says it should be 160 ohms +- 10%).
2. Check between the black/red and red/white lead 16.5 ohms +- 10%.
The resistances i gave are for reference i got them from a jag manual to give you some idea of what you should be seeing. Write down what you get when you do yours cold and then compare it to what you get hot. If you get readings that are way off your stator is bad. The readings should be a little different between hot and cold.

hhhuummm...preplexing...Try a squirt bottle. Mix up some fuel in a clean spray pump bottle. Label it "Meow mix" and shoot some down the carb whne it acts up. If it starts, its not geting fuel. Could be vapor lock type syndrome... I dunno what ya got to loose?
