Is it possible to just break the key and not have a bad bearing?

It can be difficult to tell with out being able to spin the shaft with the track dragging on it. if you pull the speedo drive is the bearing behind it rusty? Can you loosen the track and pull the bolts out of the flange holding the bearing and spin the bearing on the shaft? If it was easy everyone would be doing it?

Age isn’t helping although the mileage is low. I’d pull the thing apart and have a look. It’s been a while but it isn’t that difficult to pull that apart. It’s most likely just the needle. Once you get the three bolts off and pull the cover you will know. Let us know what you find.

Removing the secondary clutch will give you way more room to inspect. No specials tools needed there.
