a light spring will let the secondary shift up easier but will not force a backshift quite so hard vice versa for a harder spring. basically it affects your engines working rpm but it also uses the angle of the helix . too light a spring will not let you rpms high enough too tough a spring and you'll over rev. hope tha helps you
