How many people here dune their Prowlers?? I see alot of mud and rock Prowlers, but not many Duners. I only see a couple each time I go to the dunes. If you do dune your Prowler, I have a couple questions....Does anyone run paddles?? I think I am going to put some 25" paddles on the rear only. I still cannot make it up some of the popular drag hills yet. Has anyone had their clutches machined?? I have a guy who wants to do mine for about $100. I heard he gets 60+ mph out the prowlers. I just need to see if it also helps low end and mid range. My prowler only does about 45 on pavement and 40 on sand. It seems to me that the Rhino's I race uphill seem to keep pulling longer than my Prowler. It may be the weight of the cage, stereo etc. I also heard from Delmar at KD Cycle in Yuma that exhausts don't help the prowler. I don't know, but he claims he has been pretty tight with AC during many testing runs of the prowler in the dunes. He seems to know what he is talking about. I also found out he makes Long Travel Kits, Heavy duty Tie Rod Kits, Big Bore kits, and all kinds of stuff I never knew existed for the Prowlers. Anyways...I'm rambling now.

Yep - Glamis every few weeks or so.

Nope - everyone I talk to says paddles without more power aren't going to help....

That sounds about right - you are running oversized tires right? I can make it up Oldsmobile if I stick to the far left. The Rhinos beat me up there easily. Hoping the new cluctch will correct this situation! :D

I know a guy who builds sandrails and he has worked his Prowler over and it runs circles around most Rhinos now. He just machined his clutch last week and this will be the first trip to the dunes. But remember a machined clutch like that only helps your top speed. Are you hitting the rev limiter? If you are, machining the clutch won't help. You need a CDI, clutch work (springs, rollers) and more power! (don't we all)
I just put in the speedwerx clutch kit and this will be my first dune trip with it. It sure runs different on the pavement, but I'll have to wait till it gets in the sand before I know if it has compensated for my oversized ITR mudlites. bang your head

I still have the stock tires. They seem to work ok in the sand. I only run about 3 lbs. of air in them. Let me know how the clutch kit works in the sand. I definately need more low end and mid range for the hills.

I have the same problems as you, same tires and I have changed the carb and CDI to the ones from the 650H1 quad with not much change. I too have changed my exhaust and went back to the stock unit because I felt no change in performance whatsoever.

Who is machining the clutches and how? I was told the speedwerx clutch was a waste of money but the EPI clutch kit actually made difference.

Keep us posted on what your results are good or bad.

Well, the Speedwerx clutch helped a little, but not enough. Next day back in civilization I ordered the Hunterworks carb kit - now this has made a huge difference to the power on the pavement. Again, I will have to wait for the next dune trip to confirm it has overcome my ITP mudlites. On pavement at least it's bouncing off the rev limiter after about an 1/8th of a mile - a huge improvement over my stock setup. Unfortunately the Speedwerx clutch has reduced my top speed down to 45 MPH on the dash speedo when on the stock rev limiter.

Hey Warlock, I see your Prowler has paddles on the rear. Are they 12" wheels on the back? Did you have to shave anything down to get them to fit?

yeah those are 26x12 x12 12paddle rippers they clear with no problem.I have 12'' rims for the front to.I run the rhino bolt pattern with custom dmi spacer.the rims are max offset available for the rhino.they clear the front calipers by a 1/4 of an inch.I like the 12'' inch wheels so I can air down and have more sidewall floatation.[attachment=64144:DSCN1460.JPG]

Good to know - thanks. I'm thinking of getting a set or rear paddles for next season.

Just so you know you will need a paddle tire that has maybe 6 paddles,It takes a lot of horsepower to turn these, so borrow some or check around before just buying a set.The paddles I think will work the best are scat traks ,look for the paddles that are vulcanized on to the shaved carcass(light weight) the solid molded tires are just to heavy.less rolling mass lets your motor rev better.

Got my prolwer front end back together and went to the dunes last weekend. Still love the new shocks, but some how bent another tie-rod on the same side. bang your head That makes 3 tie-rods in 3 trips. As soon as my long travel is ready, I will have a set of Bilstein shocks for sale with 2 trips on them. Let me know if anyone is interested. Here are some pics of the weekend.

dentless, i seem to recall that SDHQ makes beefed-up tie rods for the Prowler....I havn't personally asked them but I seem to recall seeing some on glamisdunes.com
After bending 3 I would definately be changing something!
What rates/loading are on your Bilsteins? I might be interested....

oh, and where are you getting a long travel kit for the Prowler? Or are you on the bleeding edge of development of a LT kit.....?

Rock, I only know that the springs are 250#, but I'm not sure on the rest. I got them form Gary at Micro Touch. Sidebysideracingproducts.com. They tested them at the dunes and then set them up. They are awesome. I have a buddy who is just waiting on the longer axles to be done before he starts selling the Prowler long travel. Warlock is getting the first set I think. Anyways, I know KD Cycle in Yuma also has beefed up tie-rod kits, but if I'm gonna spend any more $$ then I think I will make sure they never break again by going with the LT kit.

hey rock...They are black springs and the main tube looks like brushed aluminum. Pretty plain looking other than the fact that they are about twice as big around as the stock ones. I will be ready to get rid of them in the next week or 2. call me 4802510235.
