While I was re-jetting my 97 Powder Extreme (zrt600) last night (another problem completely... ) I noticed that under the third pipe (outside one) right above the front mount for the upper a-arm it looks like the plastic was melted a bit... and has created a dime size hole...

do the pipes get hot enought? there is some reflective tape there, but not on that bulkhead join. What do I do to fix this and prevent it from happening again?

Thanks!

I just redid the motor in my Extreme and noticed somewhat the same condition. I put some metal there and pop riveted it in and then went to the local auto parts store and bought some reflective stick on material to recover the whole area. Stuff I bought is awesome. Reflects 80+% of the heat. Put it on the underside of the hood as well as the stock stuff was getting suspect. Stuff is not too pricey, about $20 Canuck here for a 12 x 24 inch piece.
