I am going to rebuild my zl 500 at 3500 miles and i'm wondering what your guys' opinions are on good, long lasting pistons. thanks

I put SPI's in my ZRT and work well. Recreation Supply sells them here in S'toon.

Wiseco is a froged piston. Any others are cast including the OEM factory pistons. If you talk to anyone who knows anything about pistons froged is better than cast.

Show me someone who says Wiseco pistons are not the best and I'll show you someone who knows very little about pistons.

Wiseco's are good pistons. Problem's you hear with these pistons all point back to not warming engine up enough. Forged pistons have to be warmed up properly or you will squeak em'. Every engine should be warmed up well, just it is a priority with the Wisecos.

weisco pistions also expand a little once warmed up and will cause problems in the 02 sno pros. must run oem pistons in the 02 cats... this is what our race team mechanics have been telling us for ever and also dealers and proformance shops.... i have been useing weisco pistons for as long as i could walk and have never had a problem besides in the 02 sleds

Well, I don't know anything about pistons but I have always heard that for reliability you should go with OEM pistons where possible.

I also did a google on forged vs cast and found this interesting article.

all depends on the application,, I strongly recommend not using seizcos in sleds, especially with some of the mfr's goofy cooling systems limitations/capabilities these days,, full warm up or not, the cast (closer tolerances allowed), more ''forgiving'' characteristics in o.e.m. type slugs are more suitable for sleds,, and the whopper is the thin ''christmas tree tinsel'' type rings and their ****ty low tension (''non-long life''self sealing rings that go south a little into their ''life'') and the tendency for them to become ''barrel faced'' from the looser tolerances required with wisecos that allows them to rock in the cyls until up to temp,, now give me a set of custom wisecos with grooves cut for o.e.m. rings (like hi-perf engineering used to do with arctics 650's) and then it's another ball game IMO, those rings has tensile strength and will keep tension on the walls and seal so much better,,

i think if you are just doing pistons weisco. if you plan on doing the cylinders oem are the best choice.but i have to use oem.
