its a 2005 arctic cat 500 manual footshift, i changed the oil and filled to half the sightglass. started it for a few minutes and topped it up to half again. took it for a fairly short ride and the sightglass was full, is the normal when it warms up? or should i drain some. also is there a oil tank to drain too or just the crankcase?

What does your manual say for how much to put in? How much did you put in? After it sits for a couple of hours where is the level? If after sitting it is still to the top then you need to remove some. Did you use wet clutch (starter clutch) safe oil?

I dont have a manuel, but I read somewhere to put 3.5 quarts for manual transmission, I will check the level again tomorrow. and I also used amsoil 0w40 synthetic, which is SAE approved and good for wet clutchs

Is there no manual in the slot on the underside of your seat ? You can download a free one here

You should be able to see the oil level, running or not on a level surface

Should be fine. Did you flip your seat over and have a look for the manual?
