Assuming that's exactly where the exhaust comes out? That's some serious heat to be causing something like that. What does the belly pan look like below?

There should be WARNING stickers telling people to NOT roll the sled on the EXHAUST side while HOT. Always roll it on the PTO side while performing SUSPENSION adjustments.

You've got me scratching my head man .... this is unreal. I dunno What's the dealer say about it, or haven't you been able to show them yet? Obviously the exhaust can itself must be OK otherwise the whole panel would be in trouble. Why the hell would it wreck the side panel from the exhaust and not the bellypan that's in direct contact with the exhaust? Wonder if others are seeing similar issues? That's what sucks with the lack of snow - not many people have been able to ride. bang your head

Sounds like my old ZR when my throttle switch went bad, basketball size flames blowing out the exaust when I let off the throttle. Thats probaly not the problem but I figured I would add my 2cents.

Well, after 1400 miles on my F1000 std., add me to the melted lower right side panel list. Half inch hole melted right through – like a bullet came through from the inside. The inside of the panel looks perfect – you'd never know the outside had a hole melted in it by looking at the inside of the panel. Had maybe two or three backfires today on a 100 mile ride. At some point there MUST have been something (raw fuel???) on the outside of that panel to burn a hole right through it. Anybody else have this problem lately, or hear of any recent news on any kind of fix for this? – Roy

I think it this new CHEEP plastic!!!
The plastic needs more heat resistance, which is really easy to do for the manufacture but will cost Cat more $$$. Saving money off the start here is going to cost Cat now that they have to replace all these panels.

So... how often is this "meltdown" going to happen after I get THIS panel replaced? I've purchased the extended three year warranty but still, I hope this isn't going to be a continuing problem, or worse yet, an eventual fire hazzard, 'cuz that would REALLY piss me off. My dealer graciously said I could take the panel off the new F1000 on his showroom floor if I wanted to. – Roy

I have another one that is burnt,,, burn isnt real bad, but the decals are trashed. Has anyone heard whether cat is going to do anything about them or not???[/b]
Don't hold me to this, but I believe there's yet another reflash for the ECU ... I'm still trying to confirm that with my dealer. Some of the reputable mags talked about a new fuel map for the EFI, so I would assume that new map is available for the 2007 lineup as well. Also, the 2008 lineup added a heat deflector which can be retro-fit to the 2007 sleds as well. IMHO that piece should be given to any 2007 customer, but I believe it's available only through purchase.

I allready have a post on this... But the deflector is a free update to all 2 stroke 07's. Just bring the sled to your dealer. There is also an updated clip to hold the cables on the servo motor for the F8's And F10's (If you had your F10 ECU reflashed it came with the new clip) The old clip can will damage the cables

Krom,

Thanks for the info. I pulled that clip off my F8 last year after the pictures posted on the various sites. It didn't seem like it was a necessary piece, so I just tossed it. The cables have remained seated the entire time, so I'm not quite sure if the clips really are necessary. Do you know if the F8's have a reflash available? My dealer is having a hard time determining this ... but he also may not be pursuing it real intently with the boat business going strong right now.

I'll have to call him about the deflector, and getting it installed.

Thanks again!
