I'm looking at a REALLY inexpensive ($750) 2004 400 4x4. It starts good, runs good, doesn't smoke, 4WD and 2WD work fine. The issue is that to start it, the owner has the Main Fuse to the IGN fuse jumped under the rear fender.
Clearly there's a harness short somewhere if this is what he's having to do.

My questions:
Is this a common issue?
Is there a particular place I should start my electrical testing? (I can read a wiring diagram, use a meter and test light, etc. Just not familiar with this wheeler.)
Is there some reason I should just run away with it having this issue?

Where the wiring harness comes out of the fuse box and goes over the frame.
Around the handle bars.
On the left side where the wires come out of the stator cover.
Running it like that could cause a fire as it’s not fused.
