I have a 1999 artic cat powder special700. It backfires through the carberators. I have cleaned the carbs and got a new flywheel. The pin on the flywheel is my suspicion. AIt might be slipping but I can't tell. I don't know what shape the pin is supposed to be. Right now from what the pin feels like is it's just going at an angle with no curve. Is the pin supposed to be curved or not? I haven't tested the CDI or any electronics on it yet.

I also had just dug into this motor and had it all apart. The original flywheel was chipped and cracked. The piston bearings on the crank are also loose. It could be my Reed valves I don't know exactly.

I think the underside is rounded. Are you sure you have the correct flywheel? Have you looked at the reed petals to see if they are cracked, chipped, or not closed all the way?

I looked through the intake port and the reeds didn't seem to be cracked or chipped. The flywheel part number was the same. FP9413.
It could be the timing sensor or the stator but they all look in tact.

Hard to see looking from the port. Best to take them out. Not sure on the part number. Maybe someone else knows. You should ohm test the stator and the pic up coil. (Timing sensor)
