Talked with my dealer yesterday and I am going to test ride a Z1 next week. The intent is to spring order an '08 since they don't have the speed seat available yet.

Anyway, you guys seem pretty happy with your Jags but is there anything I should pay close attention to as far as performance and handling when I have it out on the trail? What additional mods (and their cost) are required to help with handling?

With the price of new sleds I want to make sure I like the Jag because I intend to keep it for a while.

Thanks

Well, I called the dealer early this week and they said the demo sled was in the shop for some updates. The sled was an early release from last March. They said it would be ready by the end of this week. I stopped in today and the sled is back on the show room floor but it won't run because the update parts are on back order and they have no idea when they will get them either.

I really want to try one before the snow is gone.

I went from a 05 ST660, and riding ZR chassises since 95, to my new Z1. Its by far the best handling Cat I've ever owned. I' ve had it up to 95 mph, its averaging 15.6 mpg, the power is fine for trail and touring. It doesn't have the pull that my turbo 660 had but still very responsive. I have not talked to anyone that has not been completely happy with the new twin spar chassis. Good luck with your choice. :chug:

Hey BRB, I'm also from the Erie area and I know which dealer you're refering to. I've been trying to get a test ride for 2 weeks myself. I was told that it had a dead battery. (so jump it then if you want to sell sleds). I think you have to be in the KLICK? They also said they were sure they wanted a T660 on trade. I would have preferred buying from them instead of our other dealer but neither is making it possible. The other has no place to test drive and I don't like their service deptartments attitude. So what are we to do? I'm still toying the idea though.
Does anyone with a Z1 have an idea what the weight capacity is as far as 2 riders. I heard total is only 175 pounds.

I rode with another guy this weekend that went to the same dealer and was told it would not run. With that many people interested you would think they would put together one of the production sleds just so people could at least hear it run. Maybe I will call them this week and suggest it.

What updates are the early builds getting??[/b]
Something to do with the computer I was told. The dealer said it acts like it instantly floods when trying to start it.

You may be right, but I'm thinking it was something else. My dealer said he has to take the engine out for the update, which leads me to think it's not computer related. I'll have to ask him the next time we speak.

I think that I would be looking for a different dealer!!! --- even if you have to drive aways!!!!

There are "NO" engine updates for the Jag (as of yet), I have a Jag Z1 and my dealer and I have a very close relationship.
Your dealer sounds like 1. he don't wanna sell a sled and 2. He's full of crap!!!

It is true that if you let the engine idle for short periods, it "will" foul the plugs! I know, it happened to me and the repair bill was $200.00.

Shop around, at $11k for a sled, I would look for the best dealer 1st. then the best deal!!! (I did)!!!

Good luck..

Steve, maybe your VIN doesn't require an update. There is one out there on the early Jags though, not sure if it's an "engine" update, I just know my dealer said he has to pull the engine to do the update...maybe it's chassis related. I feel the same about my dealer as yours, he wouldn't steer me wrong. He has no reason to make something like this up. I'll email him and get back to this.

Alright, they didn't have to pull the motor afterall, but still a few updates on the E.B.'s.:

"Hey Jim, no motor pulling LOL, thought we were going to, but after
looking at a few of the update sheets we dont have to. There are a couple of
them, 1 is a steering colummn update, 1 is a gas tank cap, a clutch guard, a
sensor, then we had to take clutch off and gear case and send back to arctic cat
to get them upgraded. These are on the early build Jag Z1 models only. Snowing
to beat heck out right now but also lots of wind. Snow out in the country where
I lived, I broke a few drifts today that were up past my front bumper on my
truck and it even has the bigger tires on it. It was fun for awhile till I got
the truck sideways LOL. Have a good day."

If he still has this come fall, I'm thinking I can make a pretty good deal on it.

only recall is on the early built.gear case and clutch have to be shipped to thief river falls.turn around 2 to 4 weeks.the rest of the recal is done by the dealer.new steering post -clutch gaurd-gas cap etc.I have 760 miles on mine no trouble to date.recal not done.if all goes well will wait till end of season it,s time to ride, not down time.we have one (e.b.) up here that sprung a leak from the crankcase seal on the clutch side.not related to the recall.an isolated trouble.ask the dealer to show you the blletin.he has it.could be on the recall bulletins on this site.did not look.have the bullletin and number at home.not there now.hope this helps.love the handling and ride.motor will get stonger in the 1500 to 2000 mile range.drag raced a yamaha rage.3 cyld 120 h.p. 136 in track with 2700 miles.on a 2 out of 3 for 2000 ft,won 2 out of 3 by 5 to 7 lenghts.the one i lost caused by poor traction.top end is about the same.out of the hole is better even with a 121 inch against a 136 inch, mid range is strong.does not seem this way when you try it.she,s a bid torquer.have a goog day :super_happy:

Well my dealer got the Z1 updated and running so I went for a spin today.

What an awesome sled! The Twin Spar chassis is far superior to my REV in my opinion. What a comfortable ride. I could not believe how I could stretch out my legs when I adjusted the seat all the way up. The Z1 is about 100 lbs heavier than my REV 600 but it was hard to tell in the limited run that I went on. In fact the Z1 felt more stable in the turns, probably because the center of gravity is lower. The conditions are not the best right now for checking the acceleration because there is so much loose powder on the trails from the last storm so it is hard to get any sled with a standard track to hook up. The Z1 has about 20 more hp than my 600 so when I did grab the throttle it would break loose real easy. Maybe the front end being heavier contributed to that as well. I was reluctant to really get on it anyway because it wasn't my sled, if you know what I mean. The wind protection is way better too. I did not feel the wind hitting me on my sides and chest like my REV. It is nice to see a manufacturer of snowmobiles not loose site of the time of year we ride these things.

The two up seat is still a mystery though. My dealer has tried to find out the details from their rep but they have no new info.

Now I will have to decide between the Z1 and an F6 LXR for spring order.

Nice job Cat!

As far as reliability the four strokes are great, I test rode the z1 early this week, I thought it rode awesome. i pinned the throttle on a straight trail with loose snow and when it started to top out i looked down and couldnt believe i was going 80. it really tracks well at high speeds. The sled is no 660 when it comes to pull off the line though. I am not ready to purchase one just yet. I would like to see a stock turbo for this machine. I think it would give it the pull needed to be a formidable trail/performance sled.
