I bought my Arctic Cat 400 atv new and found that when shifting gears the machine has to be on level ground or if forced into gear the lower linkage arm will bend and the shifter will indicate reverse when in Neutral, this stops me from shifting into Low. Is this a common problem? It isnt according to the dealer, who said he had never heard of such a problem before.

this should be in general or peformance tech, not much action here. but no it's not common to bend the rod. it done this since new? usually it's a sign of worn belt, how high is the idle speed? pretty much though if the drivetrain is under pressure it won't shift until you move a lil bit to relieve the pressure.
