I buddy of mine has an 05 F7 and he says he was going through belts like mad this winter. It has 1700 miles on it. The clutchs look good on it, sheeves look good. Belt deflection is around an inch and 1/4. Why would this be happening? Is this something firecats are well known for?

Most likely an alignment issue. There are very detailed posts on how to "float" the secondary on DD sleds to shim for proper alignment in the archives. More than likley you will have to remove one thick and one thin shim from behind secondary to get proper alignment. I used DonoBBDs method to achieve alignment on my 05 and 06 and have had many trouble free miles on original belt.

We dont have a clutch alignment tool for this sled, what other ways can we use to get the alignment right? Question: There is a steele plate mounted behind the primary, what is this and what is its purpose?
