04 f7 ext stock except 2 deg. key,inj. perf. & bulls-eyes
This sled was fast out of the box and with a little tweeking, I got the clutching spot on, and this sled rocked!
last year, after 2000 or so miles on the original belt, I thought a new belt might be a good idea. first ride, the sled performed so poorly , ( it bogged off the line, lost 400 rpms, just ran like crap ) I was convinced I had an engine, efi, or ecu problem, then remembered the belt, put the old belt back on, and the performance magicly returned. -800's were once again being spanked! Then, last weekend, that original belt grenaded and after installing the spare, rpms dropped, bog is back! I adjusted the secondary for belt deflection, tightened the spring one notch which helped slightly, but still not right. I tried a different ( gates) belt - still the same crap. I can't afford to keep buying belts till I find one that works! Am I missing something? To complicate things, I noticed my fuel economy dropped about 20% since. Is that just inefficient clutching, or should I be looking at the engine? I want my old belt back!!!!!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

might be worth pulling yer clutches and giving them a once over, i had the bushing on my secondary moveable sheave going and binding and making some weird noises. From what Ive seen so far you have got to be pretty anal about clutches if you like yer sled to be spot on my2cents

Your new belt is probably longer than the (good) shorter belt you had on it. Yes the part #'s are the same but lengths are different. Go to the dealer and pick out a short one. Or you can lengthen your centre to centre to match this belt,(full shift). I would get a new short one and use the one you have now for a spare.

It sounds to me like you need to do a little shimming in the secondary to get the belt sitting properly in the sheaves. Had the same problem with my brother's ZRT over the weekend. he put a belt on it it ran like crap. I popped the hood and checked the belt and it was sitting almost half an inch above the top of the sheaves. Way too tall. We put the old belt back on and voila, back to normal. It doesn't take long to adjust the seconday to get the belt where it needs to be.
