Hi all, I have a 2001 AC quad 400 4x4. I live where it gets very cold in the winter (-30 cel.) I know that 0W-40 synthetic is recommended for these kinds of temperatures for my quad. The local parts store talked me into buying 5W-30 synthetic, as they did not have the 0W-40 that I wanted. I don't fully understand oil ratings and was wondering if this oil will give me the cold starting benefit that I am looking for. In addition is it safe for AC engines?

I use Cat 0W-40 year round here in Manitoba. But here's a thread on checking what oil you need to watch out for

Shell Rotella T6 5w40 is easily available and a good choice. Possibly the 0w40 Arctic Cat oil might be better in extreme cold, I switch to that in winter.
