Time to change the front and rear diff oil...

I am considering using Castrol Synthetic 75-90 (GL-5?) gear oil. I notice in my owner's manual, CAT specs. 80-90 "hypoid" oil for the diffs. All the "hypoid" oil I find is old fashioned dino...

Any one know of problems going to the Castrol 75-90? I also have a bottle of Amsoil 75-90 gear oil in the garage somewhere as well.

Due to a prior issue with a Jeep (with ARB locker), I know how important getting the right gear oil is.

GL-5 rating does include hypoid compatible specs.

The first number is relative to temperature, the lower it is, the easier the oil will move/flow when it gets cold out. Oil has to move to lubricate, so it's a bit better than 80W for winter usage.

The second number is the viscosity... 90 weight oil is what you need so that's good too. The GL-5 includes a spec for EP properties too, so it's going to do the job as per Cat's requirements. (EP = Extreme Pressure)

I use a Canadian Tire branded oil... 75W90 full synthetic (gold bottle). When it's on sale, it's slightly less expensive than the regular petroleum equivalent.

Yup amsoil in the diff's works great and on the back of the bottle it says what it is compatable with as far as weights.

Does anybody use a marine grade oil? I was thinking that it might help if some water does get in and you continue to ride. What are your thoughts?

i just changed mine again with Amsoil Severe Duty 75w90. Any 75w90 GL5 oil will do.
