charging systems

I have got a 95 ext 580 mt. cat and the batttery will not hold a charge. What is the first thing to check and how? I know some mechanics and was wondering how the charging system works???

I have put a new battery in this last year 2005 and also had to get a new one this year again 2006. The battery light also stays on when running??? If you take the battery out and recharge it it will run on that for a few hours again.

If its the original battery my guess would be its almost 12 years old, thats probably why it wont hold a charge, but hopefully someone else will have a better answer for you... good luck

Hi,

My experience with sled and cycle batteries is they don't last very long. With all the vibrations and temp extremes they put up with, plus intermittent use, I haven't had one last more than a few years. So, you probably need a new battery and you'll be good to go. Good luck.
