BigHorn Mtn Range

At least 5 of us are planning a trip into the Bighorn mountain area for about a week beginning July 30th. Our plans are to start from the Story Wyoming trail head and ride into Kearney Lake and ride surrounding trails. Rough trails in the area lots of rock crawling ranging from mild to wild. Probably set up camp at Kearney lake and do a little fishing there and may move camp a few days later. If there is anyone in the area that is looking for a ride, let me know.

Some pictures of the last trip, got home Friday after 7 days in the bighorns. We named that old doe, "Pringles" she loved pringles potato chips, also loved sunflower seeds too. She'll probably not survive the winter since she was so old and skinny.

Note the pics where I'm crossing a boulder field, some from an observers point of view and some from mine. Some just scenery too. Caught a lot of fish. I landed about 15-16 Lake trout in the 15 to 19 inch range one afternoon in the lake. Hooked on to one that I couldn't stop or turn when he headed towards deep water. Had to be a BIG fish, since he stripped out all my line right down to the the spool on the fly rod.

More to follow.

More pics

More pics. The Grizzly wouldn't even try to cross that patch of boulders, I went over and back just to show him how it's done.<grin> I've been on that trail before I gets a lot worse, takes the better part of the day to go 3 1/2 miles.

Only one casualty for the four of use who went in, A flat tire on the trailer, rolled a bead after poking a hole through the tire. Pretty easy fix 20 miles from nowhere, <grin>. Going in the Grizz had quite a bit of trouble, could not keep the front end down on some of the hills while climbing over the rocks going up steeper inclines, had to winch him up. wish I'd gotten some pictures of that. His trailer was loaded with about the same weight maybe a tad more as mine was and I did not have any problems other then rolling my trailer over on to its top side on one particular nasty spot.

The picture is of one nights dinner, 3 Rainbows and 3 Brooks in a 12" skillets. Came from the creek in the fist set of pictures.

Lake Kearny Trail

This 3 1/2 miles was on your way to Lake Kearny? A group of 4 of us are thinking about doing the Lake Kearny trip, however we are going to have an intial base camp set up at Little Goose and start from there. However, after reading your post that may end up being an all day trip into the evening trip?

Do you have any idea how many miles it was from your starting point to Lake Kearny? Would you say over half the trail would be considered Moderate to difficult riding?

Pictures are great, and thanks for info.
This thread is a few years old and I haven't seen a WYO post in a few months. I guess what I'm saying is you may not get an answer.

I did enjoy looking at the pictures again. Clap
