Investigators in the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help as they seek the cause of a fire Thursday at a storage shed in Orrock Township.
The fire was reported at about noon at a building in the 17100 block of 262nd Avenue, according to Sheriff Joel Brott. The maintenance building and storage shed belongs to the Big Lake Sno Cruisers Snowmobile Club and the Trail Association. It was heavily damaged, Brott said.
Deputies found the building engulfed in flames when they arrived, Brott said. Firefighters from Zimmerman/Livonia, Big Lake, Elk River and the Northeastern Sherburne County Fire Department were called to put out the fire.
No one was present in the building at the time of the fire, and the gate to the property had been closed and locked before the fire started, Brott said. A 2011 John Deere trail groomer as well as a 2005 Tucker Sno Cat trail groomer were inside the building and were destroyed.
The fire remains under investigation. Brott is asking anyone with information about the fire to call the sheriff’s office at (763) 241-2500.
