I just figured out my average miles per hour and I didn't think I rode that slow. What is everyones mileage vs. hours ridden?

So far I have 1009 miles and 203 hours which worked out to 4.97 miles per hour average over the life of my bike.

I have 220 hours and just over 1400 miles, works out to 6.3 mph or close to that

The problem with this calculation is that I'm a believer in warming up the engine before I ride anywhere. Also If i'm only stopping for a few minutes I will let it idle. Both these circumstances would lower my average speed by adding hours without miles.

We checked this on a bunch of my families machines last summer. The best one was a three year old polaris at 9.6 m/hr. 750 miles and 78 hours.

in the owners manual on my 06 400 it says the hr meter doesnt start counting until the machine reaches either 500-800 rpm. i always warm my bike up for a half hr. and idle it for 10 minutes before shutting it down if i wont be using it for a bit. i never cared because of this so ill have to watch it to see

Some of you guys must think you have diesels. Idleing a gas engine for those extended periods of time is not good for them. If you read almost any owners manual car, truck or atv it usualy says not more than 10 min. Carbon builds quickly at low rpm's and oil preasure is not high and fluctuates at low rpms also. Maybe this is the reason so many of you guys are having motor problems

I thoroughly agree with your assessment on idling engines. Five to ten minutes is plenty in cold temps and in warmer temps, as soon as the electric choke lets you put the machine in gear. Excessive idling is wasteful and not good for any engine.

Hey Saskabush,

I couldn't help but notice your picture. When I was a kid I knew a guy who looked similar. Couldn't ride a bicycle but he could get up a tree faster than one would think "humanly" possible. He lived in Ontario. Errr, ahhh, you wouldn't have relatives in the Wabushene area would you?

I took it as he just found you familiar looking, you must be VERY sensitive to read something negative there.

Hey don't get me wrong. I just found a striking resemblence to Tom Selleck. Did your mom ever make you a "pork chop necklace"? The tree climbing guy in my previous message wore a pork chop necklace so that their dog would play with him.
