Hello,

I have a 2017 Alterra 550. I run tacks and am considering a bigger bike. I'm a mechanic by trade and I have been considering boring or increasing compression.

To that end, I was wondering if it was possible, or if anyone had tried, to put at 700 top end on a 550 bottom end.

Thanks
Chris

I was considering doing this. You will have to compare the part numbers between the two. Pretty sure the cases are the same so top end, piston, etc.., maybe the ecu.
I’ve had 700s and even the Thundercats but found the 550 to be about perfect for most everything I do. So my next consideration was a tuner which would help with the performance side of things.
Probably the best bang for the buck would be to do some clutching.

I figured a tuner would take care of your fuel issues.
I have the clutching done, but with the tracks it would be nice to get the horsepower bump for speed. Plus the group I run with have all recently gone to 800+ and are cruising around 90 on the fire roads.

The bore and stroke are different, but the stroke is only different from the 550 by 3mm. Which works out to about 3cc so pretty well nothing.

Did you get to any of the part number comparison?
