I was handed down my old childhood sled which needed a complete rebuild. I am at the point of assembling the cylinders. After installing the first cylinder I noticed I could see the piston end gaps through the intake port. The piston is installed correctly with the arrow towards the exhaust port. I did not make note of the ring positions during disassembly, however the old pistons have the locating pins at the same location, leading me to believe this is in fact designed this way and not a new piston manufacturing issue. My understanding was always to avoid the ring gaps at the ports due to the chance they could catch and cause damage. Does anyone else have experience with this?
Engine model AA2BF3.
