I have a 2004 or a 2005 650 H1 I bought used. I found out the hard way that part of the ring and pinion in the engine case was broken. This became most evident when a 6 inch piece of the case broke out during a hard reverse up a hill. My question is are the engine cases specific to only artic cat and if so are they used on anything other than this atv or is it used in anything else. Is this engine used in anything else? I am searching for used parts on e-bay or anywhere to save money. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you broke the bevel gear. Usually happens in reverse under heavy load. The new parts to fix the gears are much stronger. A new case can be found, several people on this forum have many used parts to sell. I would check the Swap meet section, and/or post a WTB for a case there.

If it was the bevel gear that broke, make sure you order or buy the updated new staight cut. I got this from the Highlifter Forum
