I was reading through all the clutch kit info and it seems like some like the springs from the auto and some like the actual manual kit. Has anyone ever tried the springs from the H1 or the 400. I can't find the springs in the parts manual to see if the part numbers are different. I am kind of thinking that the 400 might have stiffer springs being that it has less power so it would need stiffer springs to bring the engagement higher. Just trying to think a little outside the box. Anybody have the part numbers for the starter clutch springs for different models or even know how much tension it take before they will open, measurements of spring in diameter and length. There has to be another source out there for springs which may cost less.

I don't think the 400's have much of a higher engagement rpm than the 500's. The epi wet springs aren't that expensive. For the time it takes to get them in don't try to experment to save $15.
