2014 ZR9000 - Recommended oil and filter

1072 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Upton 44
I have a new to me ZR9000 which I had serviced by the dealer last spring as I wanted them to give it a once over before I rode it this season. This year I would like to change oil and filter myself but see a myriad of recommendations online. There is obviously the AC "kit" with oil and filter included, but I read of other people buying their own filter (Fram PH6018, Wix 51359 or K&N KN-138) and synthetic oil (Motul Snowpower 4-Stroke 4T Synthetic Motor Oil 0W40 or Mobil 1 0W30 Euro fomula).

Obviously everyone has their own opinion, but just wondering what others are using on their sleds with same engine. Are there other oils or filters that users swear by? Thanks for looking!

Personally I use Amsoil signature series 5w30 along with a K&N filter. I use this on my own two sleds and another sled that I service. If you have the time to read you can find oil ratings and an incredible write-up on engine oil. MOTOR OIL ENGINEERING TEST DATA | 540 RAT - Tech Facts, NOT Myths (wordpress.com)

I would buy the kit from the dealer. It has everything you need and is not any more expensive than putting random parts in the sled

We use the KN-138 or Wix 51359, depending on what is available at the time.
For oil, we use Lucas SXS oil as it has one of the highest ZDDP packages available right now, or Royal Purple XPR for the race engines.
If it's not really turned up, any quality synthetic will do. Mobil 1 euro is always a good choice
