Had to pull engine to change one way clutch. was running fine before. Now won't start. Engine turns over, getting fuel, new plug but no spark. wiring seems to be intact and plugged in correctly. Any suggestions on what, and how, to check this out would be greatly appreciated.

You pulled the engine out of the bike to change the one way bearing?

If you did pule the engine out for what every reason check your stator and trigger plugs coming out of the left side case, connections should be on the right side of the bike above the rear clutch housing.

Did you re-connect the ground wire on the clutch side case? Heavy gauge ground wire coming from the battery should be attached to the engine. If not it'll cause some wonky ness. For future reference you don't need to pull the engine to change the one way bearing!
