I'm new here and this is my first posting. I have an 2003 EFI zl600 2 stroke sled and it is in very good shape. I'm finding that while the machine is warmed and idling, I read 13-14VDC at the battery. While I am riding and the rpm increase, the voltage at the battery jumps to +16vdc. I've been reviewing the manual and I screwed up by charging the battery while the battery was still connected to the machine electrics, a no-no according to the manual. I wonder if I screwed up the diodes in the regulator.

I suspect the voltage regulator, what do you think?

It's probably normal. Electric start regulators, clip half the AC waveform and use the battery to level off the ripple. I have the same regulator in my sled to charge a small nicad battery to use with a 12V adapter and get the same voltage reading.
