Just picked this ATV up with 1800 miles on it. Went through the carb, cleaned etc. I have spark. It will not start. Sprayed starting fluid in and still no go. suggestions would be helpful.

Confirm you’re getting fuel through the petcock as they can get plugged up with crud. Check both the ON position and the RES positions. If you are getting fuel then something’s up with carb. All jets are thoroughly removed and clean? Diaphragm must be seated properly and not torn. Are you getting consistent spark as these 400’s have issues with magnets falling off flywheel creating inconsistent spark.

New Diaphragm. Have fuel. I can check spark again. The res position and on position has me thinking though. It turns over , is in neutral. Am I missing something else ? I would think it would at least start for a second with starting fluid.
If it's not starting on starting fluid then you likely have an issue with spark. I've encountered this problem before and have fixed it simply by replacing the spark plug. Easy thing to try first.

I'm just trying to get mine back up and running. It sat for about 4 years. Has a new spark plug, new air filter, new carb, new 91 non oxy gas, new fuel line. Has trouble starting and once started it bogs sometimes. Not always. Battery sat in the machine (through MN winters) for 4 years. Put new acid it. What could be my issue? Am I over looking something simple?

Start your own thread. Ongoing issues may be different than OP on this thread.

I'd be looking at the ignition circuit. Possibly the flywheel magnets.

Yeah I bought a new plug and that didn't help. Pull the plug and grounded it and there is spark. Guess it is not strong enough. Might as well check the magnets. I guess with 1800 miles on it and with all the issues with the magnets falling off it probably should be changed.
It may be an issue with magnets but not to say that’s your issue. I still have original flywheel on my 03. It could be the wire or coil. There are electrical tests in the service manual to perform before and engine tear down.
Tim did you get that atv running? I didn't see a resolution to the problem. Asking because I'm going through the exact problem...
