Working on a friends 1998 ZR 500 carb. It was using coolant. You could smell it in the exhaust. Had to add after each ride. Tore the motor down, replaced the waterpump shaft, new inner seal and mechanical waterpump seals. All new motor seals and gaskets. I could not locate any cracks or warpage in the cylinders or the cylinder head. Any ideas?

Had same problem on mine, didn't go away until I decked the head. Also ended up replacing the cylinders, so tough to say if it was both. I used a piece of heavy glass to check for warping which I purchased some time ago for just such occasions. Head was definitely warped. Only needed about 7 thou off if memory serves and she's been tight ever since.
