So I have been swiping ideas from ya'll for awhile now so figured it was time to pay it forward. RestoMod project is a '98 T-cat, 121" that I picked up last year. Below are some pictures when I brought it home.

Intention is to break her down to the chassis, and build it back with the AGLT mod and 136" skid. I know it's been done over and over but I have myself have never done it.

these older T cats to me are just so timeless and easy on the eye's
and I can agree when you have the aglt and rear skid upgrades to them, there way so much better than stock in ride and comfort!
and some very smart cookies on this site that have built a few of them for help if needed,as there all nice enough to help or always have been!

One thing I learned from previous efforts is to bag and tag EVERYTHING, including fasteners. Even if using all new fasteners, having the old ones around for reference is a huge help. Same for the parts being replaced. The Cat illustrated parts breakdowns are nice but nothing like having the item in your hand.

Speaking of fasteners, this is one of those thing most people, including myself, forget to factor into the budget. If you are using new one it can be a huge expense.

I been looking for a 98 for a long time. I want to do the same thing, I have a 98 ZRT 600 AGLT 136 and would love to build a 98 T-cat just can't find a prime candidate like you did for the right money. Awesome find, and that thing looks like it wasn't overly abused either, dirt and grime comes off with some effort. Where in the country are you from and where was this sled? How many miles were on the odo? Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Sled came out of PA, north of Philly. Showed 3200 miles on the odo. It seemed to run okay. I have never taken it out. I brought it home and started taking it apart. There is no better way to become intimate with a machine than to completely disassemble it and rebuild it. Not sure if this outlook qualifies me for the funny farm. I remember when the original, ZRT 600 dropped in '96 I wanted one so bad I could taste it. I was in the Navy and disposable income was just a rumor. ZRT 600/800 is on the list.

Before and after of the secondary. New rollers, bushings...etc. Stock Cat yellow spring. Blasted with superfine glass bead. Red Scotchbrite (400 grit) on the sheaves to remove belt residues and then finished with WD-40 and 600 grit. Turned out ok.

I found a deal on a 2002 Pantera 136" skid. Any thoughts or suggestions on transplanting this into the Thundercat?

that wasn't for sale near Pottsville PA was it??
as if so, I almost bought it about 4 yrs ago LOL
had a 1.25 track on it?

If I remember correctly it came out of Fairless Hills which is one of the northern Philly burbs. It ran and was all there but had been stored outside, so the hood and seat were annihilated.

Nice sled, great project.
Personally, I would look for another skid because you will have very heavy rear springs and will be very hard to transfer weight to get traction.

I saw a mountain cat suspension on E bay yesterday. Keep looking, you will find a good one. You got lots of time.

I would get rid of the rear shock. It likely is shot and is non rebuildable. Check the front one to see if its rebuildable or is shot too. Makes a huge difference in ride quality. You'll be glad you did.

Finished blasting the chassis with the good old HF blaster. Plan on covering with epoxy primer and single stage Boulevard Black gloss. The color is due to a fast etch product that converts any surface rust and leave a zinc phosphate finish. Need to still go over with a scuff pad and then shoot it.

Worked on some of the plastic parts this week end. Really like this plastic resurfacer products. Getting 20 year old plastic clean enough for the resurfacer is a chore but I think worth it. Most of the little stickers (fuel shutoff...etc) were toast. Here are some photos of the completed console and airbox.

I have a question for y'all. I was cleaning the spindles and noticed that corrosion has eaten its way through the tube for the lower control arm mount. I checked both and they both have holes. I need to get a new pair. Are there any other spindles that are compatible on a 98 T-Cat AGLT other the 0703-424 and 0703-425.

I personally don't think you'd need new ones. If you have a decent weld/machine shop near you, a good welder paired with a decent machinist should be able to easily fill those holes and go in and clean the bore back up on the inside. Otherwise, I mean, I'm in MN, if you'd want to ship it, I'd be more than happy to fix it for you.
