My buddy gots a '90 ext that backfires and sputs constently no matter if its idling or your on the throttle. He had it out for a drive and it just started doing so we got looking a noticed cdi box was lose so we tightened it up, still nothing changed the plugs still nothing, checked the wiring seems all good besides the plug wires are a little ripe, they got cracks in them and everything else, could the is be the problem? The other thing we think it may be is the reeds. When it backfired we think it may broke a reed. What do you think?

1990 Ext
I had that happen with a crack in the connection between the y-pipe and exhaust pipe on my 530 ext. New(used) pipe cleared it up. my2cents
Yeah he had just welded up the Y pipe cause it was leaking, and hes got a bunch of springs from the Y pipe to the pipe, Gunna try switching up coils and spark plug wire and see if that helps matters any cause it arching every which way.
