Hello Everyone,

I am a proud new owner of a 1981 El Tigre 6000, this sled was my dad's and he bought it brand new. I just picked it up this weekend and I want to make sure I do things right. I drained out the old gas and wanted to put in some fresh gas and start it up before the snow starts here in Michigan. I was reading in the owner's manual and it said to run 20:1 Oil to Fuel mixture. I just wanted to make sure that is the correct mixture with today's gasoline and 2 cycle oil. I also wondered what everyone's thoughts were on the best oil to run int this. I know everyone has "The Oil" but since I haven't had to mix oil in quite some time I want to do the best I can for this vintage. It seemed a bit rich to me, but I figured I would check it with the pros here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Congrats Tom on your hand down, first off if the sleds been sitting without the carbs drained the very first thing I would do is to clean the carbs out and replace the fuel filter, either one of those could cause you some big troubles at first snow.As far as the oil ratio,20 to 1 is to rich the oils of today are far better,if the sled has been sitting awhile I would mix it 40 to 1 for a tank or two then take it to 50 to 1 with a good quality oil.As far as what brand I wont go there too many opinions but any name brand oil will be fine.Be aware of the jetting if it has been jetted down at some time in the past which was common, you should go back to stock or if you are going to ride it like you stole it perhaps you should consider one size up on the main jet,Iam not sure whether you have ethanol in your fuel now like we do if so a jet increase is almost a must the ethanol will burn hotter and the machine was not calibrated in the day for this fuel check with your local fuel merchant as to whether there is ethanol in the fuel.

Thank you for the advice, I will ask my Dad about the Jets and I will take your advice on the Mixture. I bought some AMSOil synthetic oil to try out. I have used this in the past with my Jet-Ski and Dirt Bike with good results. Once I get it ready I will take some pictures of my new kitty and post them up.

Thanks,

Tom
