I'm adding a 141 ppowerclaw 2.25 track to my 2011 crossfire snopro 800. Right now the gearing is 60/60. Any suggestions on what gearing I should go to. I'm thinking 57/63 or is that to much? maybe 59/61. I ride the back country two tracks of the UP of Michigan.

Thanks for any input.

I don't think you want to gear down at all. One thing to think about, it's not like a wheel like folks often think, it's like a conveyor belt, the only thing that changes gearing is the drivers, not paddle length. You drive on the bottom of the skid, and the length it drives per revolution of the motor or driveshaft remains the same no matter what the paddle length.

Even way up high here I prefer stock gearing on the 2011 with the 141, you want that high track speed to drive the 141 up the hill.

Thanks Kaleb,

Isnt the stock gearing on your limited 57/63? I'm more or less converting my snopro to the LE specs I beleive. I was thinking of gearing down for some of the technical slow riding and creeping around trees on the ORV trails.

AH! Got ya. Thought you were gearing down based on the track, not change in riding. My limited, whatever it is, is too low. I need to step up about 2 ratios, maybe 3... but with boost, so not apples to apples.

I'd say that you'd be happy with going one, MAYBE two gear ratios down, but three makes it rather different. When I did that on my 09, I was very disappointed in the result. I listened to BDX against my better judgement & got a sled that stood up instantly, but fell off on the way up the hill rather than continuing to accelerate all the way up.

Climbing is a huge factor for me though, so not sure how it compares back there. Don't assume I'm a useful resource though, since I've got no experience riding in your area... it could just be totally different in your needs Vs mine.

Were pretty much flat out here. Some of our biggest hills are just speed bumps for you. I was just thinking of gearing down two sizes, definetly not three, that would be to extreme I think. I gave alot of thought to one size down, but didnt know if I would really feel it. I have never geared a diamond drive. Messed with alot of chain griven machines and I never seem to see much results in a one ratio change unless I was dialing it in for the same terrain day in and day out.

my plan is to do the same to my machine this year (2.25 PC). I am curious what you end up deciding for gearing. I am in the same boat in Ontario. Pretty much all flat. I plan on trying it first without re gearing, and see what I think. But if the concensus was 2 steps down, I might do that too.

I have a 60/60 gearing on mine with 144x2.25, 3.0 pitch, so i had swiched to drivers out of a M seires, so i dropped a tooth size, i have great power on the bottome end. I ride all the ditchs that people are a afraid of, so i'm going mybe 20-25 mph creeping around stuff and doing wheelies etc. She'll stand on end till you let off, pulls hard all the way till about 70ish. Now mines a 700, but gives you an idea.

I'd run your track and then firgure out if you need to drop gearing, i doubted you'd need to too. just my .02

Agreed. I'd stick with the 60/60 & only adjust if needed.

Most of us only adjust to save belt life, I don't think people area really seeing any real improvement otherwise. Keep in mind, a lot can be done with clutching, set your clutching up right & you'll be much happier.

As far as clutching what would you recommend? As of now mine is all stock, last belt had well over 2500miles on it, and just decided to change cuz it was getting old. Personally I think its set up pretty good already, however any tips to make it better would always be good.
Another big question I have is suspension set up. Never had to play with this too much, again from stock it rails on the trail. Off trail it wasnt too bad. Usually when I would get stuck with the stock 1 3/8 it was because the sled would trench. Any tips to avoid this? I am hoping the PC helps keep me up on top of the snow. Sled is an 09 standard 141.

Just need to wait until freeagent finds me a take off and Im good to go.

I'd love to be helpful, but I don't ride low alt & never ride trails, so the mix of riding you do is likely pretty different from me.

I set my rear skid so that it sags just a touch when I get on. I get the front shock set with enough preload so that the skis lift about 1' when I get on the throttle (not talking turbo here, talking NA) I dance between them till I've got the sag I want with the right amount of transfer, usually takes me a couple tried to get it perfect. I'm not sure how it compares for trail use, I'd guess you'd want way less ski lift than me though.
