2002 zr 800cce too 900

Hi , looking at a 02 zr 800 and the guy said it has a 800 bottom and a 900 top end on it none efi. Does the cylinders have a number on them saying it a 900? With my luck it could be just a 800 with 900 heads on it.

It's right on the side of the jug, "794" if it's an 800 and I think "863" if it a 900. If I remember correctly they both will be on the PTO side of the jug near the power valves. Hope this helps.

Thanks. Is it true if your putting on a 900 top end you have to run the 900 CDI box because of the power curve? Just donít want to get taken.

You don't have to, but it is recommended to run the 900 CDI for optimum performance. If its carb, you should also run the 900 jetting, gearing and clutch set up. As well the power valves need to be swapped with 900 APV's or the 800's need to be machined to fit.

Itís a 4 Hr drive . His neighbor built it. Just hate to drive out there for nothing. In changing the cdi to a 900 does that apply to efi sleds only? What should the compression be at with 4,345 miles ?

If the guy cannot answer what exactly has been done to it, what CDI, what jetting, what gearing, clutching etc. That's a long drive, to pick up someone else's project. And any time it is not running right or you want to work on something you are going to have to figure out what you have. It would have to be in incredibly good shape, for an INCREDIBLY good price in my opinion. ZR800's and ZR900's aren't really what i would consider rare and can be had for a pretty good price. And i cannot imagine those 69cc's really make this one anything special. Not trying to sound like a jerk, just trying to give you a different perspective.

CDI only applies to carb. EFI uses an ECU.
