'16 ZR6000 wont idle down

First time I ever put many miles on it so I have no idea how long its been happening. Rode it yesterday for the first time since it was new. I put gauntlets on it because it was very cold and at first I thought the were interfering with the flipper. Nope. Come to stop after a long pull, she idles at 2000, 10 seconds later goes to 1950. After 30 seconds it goes to 1850/1900. Shut it off, restart and it idles at 1650 like it should. I have a few months warranty left so it may have to go in.( yeah, like they can replicate that in their shop.) Anybody ever have this happen?

That’s what most efi 2-strokes have mapped into their ECM’s, it helps it slowly lower itself to its recommended idle speed, but not suddenly be obliterated with a blast of rich mapping (and possibly create fouling of the plugs by doing so)

Most every 2-stroke I’ve ever seen (EFI’s) act that way.

Normal like cnote said. If i run the hell out of my 600 it will hang it up for 3,000 for a while.

Especially on the more recent “compliant” machines. Have to do everything possible to help reduce emissions, ya know.....

My 800 dont do that. The 600 wont idle down even after 3 minutes of idling. It also wont spin the stater motor when its 12 degrees or colder out, just spins the "bendix" and wont engage the starter. My old F-7's would idle a little high at a stop but would always return to a normal idle like my 800, within a few seconds. This thing wont do that. I shut it off and sometimes it backfires on the next start up. 2200 is probably closer than 2000 at first, then 2000 after 3 or 4 seconds but wont go lower than about 1900, it blinks between 1850 and 1900. The starter issue is going to be a tough one to get warranty work on. If they dont get to it this morning it wont be cold enough out the rest of this riding season and then the warranty is up in November. yeah I'm familiar with the idle on efi's but never had one "hang" for so long, i dont think it will idle down to normal. I was riding semi hard, nothing over 80, the trails were way too tight for that.

On a different note, that 600 engine is an animal, very impressed with its power. The ride is very comfy ( LXR) handled the rough stuff ez.

Forgot to mention, the dash has a voltage meter option. I was toggling thru all the different options like exhaust temp, intake temp, coolant temp... all running normal.. voltage was on the low side, this was at a high idle.. Maybe it has something to do with these 2 issues???????

My 600s hang a little longer than I would like and they have since new. If I shut down before the rpms get lower than 2000 I get a backfire so I wait the 30 seconds or so first. (Curious if the 800 ctecs hang up to burn off excess fuel too.) Three minutes seems excessive, if I were you I would check the Throttle Control Switch as per the service manual, it’s pretty easy too, it’s just a resistance measurement. Idle position = less than 1 ohm. My starter has been a problem and if you remove the primary clutch you can get good access to the starter shaft. At the beginning of the season I pulled the gear forward cleaned and dry lubed the shaft and it’s been good all winter. Maybe it’s a maintainance thing with this starter. One member posted there is a new and improved bendix and changed his out. The maintainance is a lot less hassle imho than taking it to the dealer for warranty. I can have it done in less time than it takes to load the sled on my trailer.

My '16 ZR 600 did this a few times too many, as well the starter issue showed its face(spinning bendex-no engagement) My shop found a broken wire on the throttle cable and the battery was not able to take a charge. We'll see how things are after this weekend, if I give my '16 800 a rest, but don't count on that :-P, there's a local club hosting drags to raise funds for groomer payments, hope I can win stock and hand them the $100 back, and keep the trophy!

The starter issue is weird. I cleaned the shaft from the back side when I had the hood off last week and lubed with a dry lube. Rode all day Monday and the high for the day was 6 degrees. It started every time by the starter. (15-20 times?) Load it on the trailer, haul it home ( 11 degrees and 2 hour trip) and the bendix just spins and spins. Get it inside and it starts every time. New battery before this trip, old battery load tested fine. Less than 1000 miles when it first acted up. This starter issue is a common thing from what I've been hearing. If they have a new and improved bendix, I'll put that on myself... Do you have a part number for that??
