The 80-6000 I have has a red tag on box and can't read it. The 81-6000 has a 777 part number on it. I thought way back then the red box was best. Now looks like1 fits all. I have 3 extra motors with stators and flywheels, just looking for a box to put one an extra engine. Thanks

Yeah those numbers come off very easy if you like cleaning your sled up. I'm not the last word on decipher numbers. The OEM 81 Tiger Nippondenso 32900-92540. There may be other numbers that pertain to the 884 I dont know or what numbers on a 168. I usually write it on the bottom so dosnt rub off when I know what it is.

Getting ready to start dissasembly of the 80-6000 to start it's check up and engine mods. Have some great ideas to fix, modify and change to make it a good safe vintage rider. Still no twin pipes that someone wants to sell.

A tip even if your not cutting the head plane it to make sure its straight. They like to warp just looking at it. You will know right away it will pressurize the cooling system and blow out the rad if it was a problem. A trick is to cut the shelve out of the air box and open the back like the Wildcat's. Good for 2 hp a little louder though in a good way

Red face

Missed out on the pipes. By the time I got home and looked for them, they was gone. Oh well. Another day. Anyone ever make copper or brass head gaskets for the 500 zuk? I remember a buddy had a 606 kit for his. Kept blowing head gaskets. Any sealer on the head bolt threads when installing the head? Thanks for any info.

Had an '81 El Tigre drag sled with high compression that kept blowing head gaskets. Checked the head and it was slightly warped. Actually just figure eighted it on fine sandpaper on a table saw table until it was flat. No more blown head gaskets. Something you might want to check.

Yep have to be quick on the trigger for HPE they have a cult like following. Some buy them even though they have no use for them at the moment. Thats where I learned my lesson on the warped head the 600 had a cheap head gasket. Went through 4 of them. Wouldnt put anything on the bolt threads might break something if it cant get out. Spray the gasket both sides with Hylomar or copper gasket spray

Did you ever use after market gaskets on this motor? Which ones did or didn't work well? Have you ever taken the ring off a speedometer on the 81 6000? would like to clean the inside of the lense. Thanks, Paul

I use factory head and base gaskets. I picked up a supply on Ebay less than retail which is unreal. Cometic or Winderosa dont remember which one is thinner the other thicker than OEM. Not an 81 but took off mid 70"s. Once started can work it off with a butter knife without denting it other than the starting point. Auto gauge restore places will rebuild them with a new face. They have a lot more skill or special tools to look right I would guess. The 81 on are the most accurate gauges
