2008 700 Diesel fan is always on

I just got the diesel delivered yesterday evening.
As soon as I turned the key in the ignition the fan turned on.
I rode it around a bit and, turned it off, then turned the key and the fan came on again.
I don't know if the fan is running the whole time the engine is running due to the noise.

Upon receipt of the ATV there wasn't any fluid in the reservoir.
I filed it up and ran it some more with no leaks.

Is it normal for the fan to automatically come on and stay on?
If not, how do I fix the problem?

I'd rather fix this small problem now instead of replacing a head gasket later...

Thanks.

Unfortunately very few people have diesel s. Whitebread is the sites diesel master. Private message him.

If the temp is high, the fan may stay on like vehicles to cool them down. I have no experience in ac diesels. With I haf one though.

The fan should be off until operating temp is reached.

Could be a bad temp sensor.

Smelly Cat. 08 700 Diesel. Smoke screw tweaked for smoke. RTR Flex bracket with a little lift. Stock looking hollow muffler. Mud Pro snorkel added for looks. Two batteries, because two is greater than one. Other stuff to be added later.

Are you sure it's the radiator fan? There is also an electric fan that blows air through the transmission. It's always on whenever the key is on. It's by your right knee under the plastic.

I have 2 temp sensors and a thermostat coming from Country Cat tomorrow (hopefully).
I really hope this fixes everything. But after reading Whitebreads reply, I may not need to fix anything!... So I might have the first of many "extra" parts for the 4-wheeler.

Thanks for the advice and replies.

Extra parts are good to have.

This happened to me - fan would occasionally run by itself when key was out, which eventually ended up in a dead battery. Dealer advised that some of the ignition switches are defective. Switch was replaced, which solved my problem.
