My new Diesel

After being infected by the diesel bug, I finally bought a new Ram Eco Diesel. Couldn't believe the deal! Dealer gave me $10,500 for my 276,000 mile 2005 Ram hemi and took off another $6,000 off the sticker! Jeez, these trucks are smooth! It has 3:92 gears and the premium Alpine stereo. Can't believe how economical, so far, it's averaging over 30 mpg. Gotta get some side steps, though!

Congrats on the new diesel, I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 SRW 5.9 Cummins that I bought new and it only has 137K miles on it to date. I have not checked mileage on mine in a long time, but the last time I did a long trip I was getting 20 MPG, not to bad for a 1 ton truck.

It's a 3L v6 made in Italy, like my Diesel Cat! This motor is smooth as silk! Unreal fuel economy, so far= as high as 31 mpg, but hovering around 30 mpg! Definitely more than 700 miles per 26 gallon tank. It's not quite as punchy as the Cummins and no where close to a hemi, but it's fine for a geezer like me. Passing cars is not a problem, it whips right by. I believe servicing the fuel filter may be a pita, but I don't mind a little diesel running off my elbow. BTW, T.Ray, I have sold a bunch of the 5.9 and 6.7 Cummins and the 6.7 FPT marine diesels, they last forever if you give em half a chance! So I have no reservations about the little 3L VM diesel. Those Italians know their stuff. I nearly bought a 2500 with the 6.7 Cummins, dealer was giving heck of a deal, but this 1500 has the 3:92 gears and a very good tow rating and rides like a Mercedes.

I accidentally put in a tank of 10% ethanol/ diesel. Hmm, looks like just under 28 mpg on this tank. We are so lucky to have the government pushing alcohol down our gullets. Who was the idiot that thought ethanol would be a good idea in diesel fuel? Still love the Ecodiesel! So far 776 miles on a 26 gallon tank is the best.

I didn't know that either,now I've run up to 20% bio-diesel before in my Cummins diesel and the fuel I'm getting now says it contains 5% bio-diesel.

I would love to run some Bio Diesel in my Ram and my Cat! It's great for lubricity and even a bit more power. Used to race boats and one of my secrets= ran 50/50 Bio B100 and diesel heated up with water injection. Occasionally would sneak a bit of propane, only if we needed more power. Bio Diesel is good for injectors, etc. Ethanol belongs in single malt Scotch. Seems like, around here Bio is scarce.
