Does anyone know what the riding's like around Iron river/Vallhalla/northern bayfield conty in Wisconsin? I'm looking at running up there for a day soon and I would like to know if they've gotten some new snow on all the hard ice they had up there.
thanks!

I just got back from a day trip to Iron River. the trails there are unbelievable!!! rode around between iron river/valhalla/port wing and all the trails are very well groomed and smooth! there is a hard base on the trails but with the fresh snow on top it made for some incredible riding, plus there is hardly anyone up there! definatly worth the drive there for some late season riding.

Shhhhh! Don't let that out! Kidding. Trails in this area are great! I have a cabin in Iron River and keep my sleds up there in a buddies heated garage. The UP has great snow, but at certain times of the year, the Iron River area has better trails. Not as beat up. Locals are great. Be sure to stop by the Battle Axe Saloon. Only place in Iron River to see decent looking bartenders. Molly and Julie are great!!!! Wanna Ride rentals will help with all your repair needs. Watch out for the trail patrols if you run a can. If you want to make a big ride, head down to the Cable area. IMO there is no need to head to the UP in the middle of the snow season, Iron River is just as good.

Trails won't open until the last bambi season ends on 12/14 or 12/15.

Yeah know the trails do not open until then, but I was not sure about the forest roads if that was legal or not, or rideable for that matter. I cannot go north until next month anyway but just looking for how the conditions are up there now.

We're supposed to get a storm this weekend. PM me if you need any local updates this winter.
